Combo Chimbita drummer Dilemastronauta’s newest recording is a rare gem, a live-conceived improvisational tropical trip, with just a quartet of talented musicians and an adventurous audience at Sleepwalk to serve as their sounding board as they developed the recording over a winter residency at the Brooklyn venue. Dilemastronauta and his different iterations of La Tripulación Cosmica certainly thrive in this unscripted atmosphere, and the superb studio sound and presentation is most definitely a credit to label Figure & Ground’s approach to translating these live concepts into a living studio session. What you get here is a captivating 30 minute spacewalk, rather a symbolic Sleepwalk, suspended 60 miles above the Earth, encapsulating the tones of Colombian roots with a tonal heart of free, spiritual jazz that the musicians (Ricardo Gallo - synths, Juan Ospin - bass, Carlos Rienzo - flutes and voice) effortlessly move around with. Limited edition LP with artwork from the great Mateo Rivano in Bogotá. Highly recommended and available as an official distribution release in the US.
